Essential Oils Popularity

Essential oils and herbs have been used extensively for medicinal uses dating back to the ancient Egyptian times of 3500 B.C. Essential oils were used as medicine as well as in the burial rituals of rulers and pharaohs. They were also used in biblical times and referenced throughout the Bible. They were used as anointing oils, they were burned as incense to stop plagues, used as beauty treatments, and frankincense and myrrh were given as gifts to Mary after Jesus’ birth because they were known to support the immune system. Mary would have rubbed them all over him to help prevent any infection and strengthen his immune system. 2000 years ago Hippocrates (known as the founding father of modern medicine, and the Hippocratic Oath quoting “First, do no harm”) used essential oils extensively in his medical practice. Essential oils are still widely used today for their medicinal healing all over the world.

Essential Oils are extracted directly from the bark, flower, fruit, leaf, seed or root of a plant or tree. Essential Oils are created thru a process of distillation which separates the oil and water based compounds of a plant by steaming. Occasionally they are sometimes produced by cold pressed extraction. Citrus oils are most times harvested by this route as they only use the peels of citrus for the oil. Essential Oils are highly concentrated oils that have a strong aroma. This is where “Aromatherapy” comes into play. During the distillation process you are separating the most powerful healing compounds of a plant into a single oil. Here’s an example of how potent an oil can be, it takes 150 pounds of lavender to create 1 pound of lavender essential oil, in essence you are getting 150xs the healing power of lavender in that 1 pound of oil compared to using straight lavender in something. Essential oils work with your body rather than against your body if used correctly and in a safe manner.

The natural oils in plants protect them from insects, shield the plant from a harsh environment and help them adapt to their surroundings. By using essential oils you are harnessing the protective, healing powers of that particular plant.

What do you know about Essential Oils? I will be honest with you, I did not know anything at all until a couple years ago when I started seeinWhat g on social media what Essential Oils could do for you. What are they? Where do they come from? What are the benefits and how do you use them? The biggest shock to me when I began my research on Essential Oils was the cost for a tiny bottle. Are they of Therapeutic grade?  You know that really sounds impressive, technical and official doesn’t it?  Well come to find out the term “Therapeutic grade”  and another “Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade” are just marketing ploys. Made up by Essential Oil companies to sell there products.  Defining one product from another is extremely critical in marketing said product. You want it to become the “gold standard” product to market.  This was the tactic used to create the term “therapeutic grade” back in 2007. Prior to this there was no such term as “therapeutic grade” in the essential oil market.

There is no governing body as of this writing, that certifies the quality of essential oils or the standardized grading system for essential oils.
