Making the Plunge to Empower Network

This Grandma has made the “plunge”! Thank you to Kim Klaver for introducing me to Empower Network. I signed on a couple days ago and have been going through the video training for each of the products that Empower Network has to offer. I have been networking since 2007 and have not seen a more powerful system and I am excited to get started. Because of my profound hearing loss I am greatful to Kim for chatting, emailing and just being so patient with this “Grandma”. Dave and Dave are great teachers. They both have interesting backround and have done well for themselves.

What is Pinging?

When you become a blogger you hear about pinging.  What in the world is pinging? How can it help my blog? A lot of bloggers don’t know what pinging is or even understand what it is. We will try to explain what pinging is and how it can help your blog and what services are available for pinging. When we are done today you will know exactly how to use pinging to make your blog most popular!

Pinging and updating go hand in hand. When a blog is pinged it is telling the blog tracking system that the blog has been updated. Thus, pinging is the process of telling tracking services that a site has been updated. This is what I am doing today. I am updating my blog and so the tracking services will learn through pinging that my site has been updated.

You ask, how does pinging work? A ping service scans regularly blogs for updates. When a blog is updated the pinging service is notified. Very much like search engine spiders. They both scan blogs for information and both report that information back to there specific site. A ping service only reports back new blog posts.

How can pinging be useful for my blog? Pinging in effect, tells people that there is a new blog posting available. Those loyal followers of yours will see the ping and want to visit your blog or those who have never seen your blog will see the ping and want to check out this new blog. Pinging really helps increase traffic to your site as it is showing that your blog has new information for your readers. Those who visit sites with pinging services will see this information in a form of a scroll on the left or right side or top of page. The scroll is usually in XML format and typically includes the title and URL of your blog as well as the date and time of your recent  update.

So now that you know what pinging is, who offers pinging? There are several services available which you can use to have your blog pinged. Lets take a look at some of them. is probably the most well known pinging service. They monitor sites for updates and then pings whenever there is an update to report. Every blog software is available to use Weblogs.

This one is offered by Yahoo and has a built-in integration with movable type and other tools. The really neat part of this service is, it offers the ability to give out updates via Messenging services like AOL and ICO. It is a direct pinging service so those who sign up for subscriptions to your blog will be sent an email anytime your blog is updated. is another one. It allows its bloggers to manage there updates through a web based interface. These updates are also highlighted on Blogrollings web site. Data is automatically retrieved from other sites like and every five minutes. Often time your site could already be  pinged by Blogrolling,  and you don’t have to sign up for it. Search on the site for your URL before signing up.

Technorati is another service that pings blogs. It gets its data from a
variety of places and is definitely a site you should go to for
blog pinging.

These are just 4 of the many different blog pinging services available. A quick search on Yahoo or Google will reveal many other possible blog pinging services to use for your blog. It is best to sign up for as many as you possibly can to ensure that your blog is well-pinged. A well-pinged blog will definitely help your blog attract more visitors. So sign up for as many as possible and watch your blog traffic increase.

Monetizing Your Blog for Cash Flow

We have all started our own blog, right? Well now we are going to learn how to make money from blogging. We hear of one teenager that has earned $5000.00 a month just from making posts on his blog. Not every blogger is this “lucky” tho. It does take some skill and a little bit of the “Irish luck”. 🙂 You also have to have some knowledge of how exactly you are going to be able to earn money from posting blogs. Today we will go over some of the methods to make money on your blog. Three methods, actually:  Adsense, Pay Per Click and Affiliate Links.

Now that we know we can make money by blogging we need to know exactly what we need to do to accomplish this. You work with companies that want to use your blog as a form of advertising. You think it sounds like selling out? Not exactly. Advertising can be as in your face or as subtle as you want it to be. Remember it can also make you money providing you have enough visitor traffic to your blog.

The first method we will discuss is Adsense. This is a program offered by Google. If you choose to install Adsense on your blog it will display ads provided by Google. If you decide to use Adsense you will need to go to At the bottom of the screen there will be a link for “Advertising Programs”. Click on that and go to “Adsense”. Scroll down to where it says “Click Her to Apply”. Fill out the form with the information about yourself. Google will notify you via email whether or not your site has been accepted. If accepted then set up your ads by doing the following:
If your blog is hosted on for example, you can set up your AdSense ads by going to your profile, selecting settings>template>add an element. Then select AdSense and login with your account info. Next you will configure your ads and save the template. Thats it!!

If you are self-hosting your blog, you’ll have to set up AdSense in more of a manual way. You’ll create your ads(which can be as small or as tall as you want) and then copy the
HTML/JavaScript code Google gives you. Then you’ll paste it into your blog(on the left, right, or top of the screen).

For the first few days, the ads displayed by Google will be
Public Service Announcements. After the ads have been up a few
days, though, the ads will switch to ads that are relevant to
your blog.

Now you are wondering just how Adsense works.  Every time a visitor clicks an Adsense ad, you get a little bit of money(usually around 30-60 cents). The amount you get for
each ad clicked depends on the number of unique visitors you receive on your blog. The more visitors, the more money that canbe earned. Google will then send a check or pay you through Paypal once you’ve made at least $100 from the ads. Just remember, Google will penalize you if you click your own ads or if you ask visitors specifically to click on your ads. Don’t do it! Not worth it!

Pay Per Click is basically just like AdSense, except you don’t just work with Google—you work with multiple companies. BidVertiser is one such company you can sign up with to do Pay Per Click advertising. How do I get Pay Per Click you ask? You sign up with a site like Bidvertiser and then follow their instructions to set up the Pay Per Click ads on your site.
Pay Per Click works  by paying you money each time someone clicks an ad that
you display. You won’t get paid for multiple clicks from the
same user in the same visitor, nor will you get paid for someone
simply visiting your site. You only get paid for legitimate

Affiliate links are basically links which people pay you for.
Companies will actually pay owners of popular blogs to post
links on their blog. You can do as much Affiliate linking as you
want. So how do I get Affiliate Links? You can get Affiliate links by searching for “Affiliate Link Programs” on the internet. Once you find an Affiliate link program that looks good to you, sign up for it. Then you can follow their instructions for putting the link(s) on your blog. Now we ask, how do Affiliate Links work? Like the other two methods mentioned above, Affiliate links work by paying you money each time they are clicked. You get paid for each click per unique visitor.

So there you have it. Monetizing your blog. There are these three legitimate ways to earn money from blogging. Keep in mind that the amount of money you make is determined by how much traffic your blog draws. Drawing alot of visitors will make you a lot and if not then you make, not so much. 🙁 Remember its still extra money, so why not do it?

How to Stop Blog Spammers

What do you know about spam and blogging? When I started blogging I knew nothing.  Oh my, I have sure learned a lot since I began this journey of blogging.

Blogging has become extremely popular and a very important part of the internet. If you can imagine millions of people blog everyday in all parts of the world. As blogging has evolved over the years so has the commenting. Anyone can write a comment on any blog. As commenting has grown more popular so has spam commenting.  We will go over why commenting is a great form of feedback for the writer of the posts and how commenting helps with credibility of the writers content. What spam comments are and ways to prevent then from happening.

When blogs first came around, they were considered just an online journal. No one could post comments on these blog postings. That all changed in 1998 with the Open Diary, a site which allowed people to comment on blog postings. Now all blogs whether they are remotely or self hosted, includes this option to comment.

Commenting is great because it allows real folks to tell you what they think about your form. It allows you feedback on what your are doing right and what you may need to improve on. Comments can be encouraging and can motivate you to post more quality blog messages. Sometimes the constructive criticism will make us work harder to get better at writing content.

Whatever the style of comment is, it is still very useful to your blog. High numbers of comments have the ability to make a blog look credible because they show that the blog is being read by a lot of people. That’s something that every blog owner wants, and comments help to let them know just how many people enjoy their content.

Unfortunately we receive bad comments.  Spammers have now started to use comments as a way to spam your blog. Spam comment is a comment that only advertises another site or product.  If the comment seems bland or generic with a cheap link thrown in, then its definitely a spam comment. An example of a spam comment: “Hey, this site is really cool. Check out my cool site at” Not all spam comments will be this blatant, but you get the point, huh?

There are ways to prevent the spamming comments. Close off the commenting on older blog posts. There are options for you to stop these comments from appearing on any particular blog post.  Lots of times spammers will go to the older posts and spam so take away the opportunity from them to keep it from happening. Most blog hosters now offer this as standard option in the tool panel. After a couple weeks that your posts have been up, take them down.

Take advantage of software offered to prevent comment spam. If you host your own blog using WordPress, you can use an option in that software to prevent spam. Even if you aren’t using WordPress, you can still use other Spam comment blocking software like Spam Karma, Akismet, and Bad Behavior. While these aren’t 100% effective, they have proven to be quite effective in preventing spam from happening.

Take a look at your settings and see what can be tweaked to
toughen your protection. Lots of blogs now have settings to help prevent spam. If you
already have a spam blocker on in your blog and are still experiencing spam, take a closer look at the settings to see if there’s anything that can be tweaked to make your protection
stronger. However, if you do this, you should closely monitor your posts to make sure legit comments aren’t being blocked out. If they are, you might have to lighten up a bit.

Be sure to read your comments regularly. Even the best softwareor setting can’t prevent everything, so you will have tooccasionally manually remove comments on your own. By applying the above principles, you can ensure that your blog is full of only good, quality comments, which will help your credibility tremendously.

How To Get Your Own Blog

Facebook has presented so many good writers and I think a blog would be ideal for many of those writers. How about you?
Blogs have become incredibly popular in the past few years. Most website owners and users of the internet have a blog. I know, you want to get into blogging but not sure how to go about it. Sites like have made it easy to setup and make posts on your very own blog.
Well I am here to show you how 🙂 We will go over everything from signing up for your very own blog on to choosing a template to finally making a first post. What is It is a sight that hosts blogs for free. Yes, it is FREE! This really makes it easy for anyone to have a blog as you do not have to set up a website and host it yourself. All you have to do once you have signed up with is login, write you post and click on submit. Thats it!

Now you are wondering what your web address will be on Your new web address will be One thing that people dislike about Blogger and other free sites is you do not have the freedom in choosing a name. You are limited in choosing only what is available. If you are wanting for example: you more than likely won’t have that available to you.

Signing up for a blog on Blogger is fairly simple. First go to and scroll down the page and click on the button that says “create your blog now”. You will then be taken to a page where you will enter an email address that you created to login to your blog, a password and a word verification.  You will have to check “I Accept Terms of Service”. Click Continue.

Next, you will be taken to a page where you will choose the blog title, blog address, and another word verification(which is done to prevent auto-signups). When you type in your blog address, you can click a link that says “check availability”. This will tell you whether or not the desired name is available. If the first name you wish to have is not available, keep typing in different variations of the name until you find one that is available.

After you have put in all the information, click “Continue”.

Now we are going to choose a template.  After you click “Continue”, you’ll be asked to choose a template. The template can be changed at any time after you sign-up for the blog, so you don’t have to choose an “official” template now. If you scroll down, you’ll see a variety of different templates. Click on the one that you like best and then click “Continue”.

After you’ve chosen a template, you’ll see that your blog has been created and that there is a button to “Start Posting”. Click that button.
You’ll be taken to a page that is similar to the posting page at a message board. There is a “Title” field, where you can put in the title of this particular blog posting. Then there is a
bigger field, which is the body of your post. Type all you want in this “Body” field, as there is no limit.

Note that there are options above the field to bold, italicize, underline or spell check the text. There is also the option of changing the size and color of the text, plus the ability to add bullet points, numbered lists and even pictures. For now, you’ll just do a simple “Welcome” post.

In the “Title” field, type “Welcome!” In the “Body” field, type your message. You could start with a simple introduction, talking about yourself and the purpose of the blog. When you’re done typing the message, click the “Publish” button. It is worth noting that you can choose to save the post as a draft, if you want to go back and later finish the post.

After you’ve clicked “Publish”, you’ll see that your blog has been published successfully. Click the “View Blog” link to view the results of your work. You’ll now see your post.
How do I log in now that my first post is published?
You’ll go to and click on the “Old Blogger” link at the top right of the page. Type in the email address and password that you signed up with.  You’ll be taken to the
“Dashboard” of your blog. If you want to enter a new post on your blog, click “New Post”. Then follow the instructions mentioned in the previous section. Or if you want to edit the
template, add/edit elements to your page, you’ll click “Settings” and then “Template”.

Now that is all there is to it. Now the fun begins. I hope you enjoy blogging as much as I do. Blogs, whether thay are hosted at or another free blog site, are incredibly useful and fun.

Keep People Interested in Your Blog

You know, I personally love blogging and get so much satisfaction sharing information that I have learned. It seems like one can never get enough education when it comes to the Internet.  We will concentrate on blogging for the next few posts. If you haven’t tried blogging you really should give it a  try.

Keeping people interested in your blog, whether it is a business or personal blog, is key to attracting a lot of regular visitors. Many blogs have died because people have just lost
interest. The main reason for the lack of interest is simply a lack of posts by the blogger. Regular, frequent posting, which will boost your blog’s ranking in search engines, is  essential to the survival of any blog.

You might be asking yourself, what is frequent posting? How many blog entries should I make on a given week? How do I make frequent consistently good posts? What are the reasons for me to post frequently? In this post we will go over all of the above.

What is frequent posting you ask? Well frequent posting is posting enough to keep your readers coming back because they are interested. Obviously, people will not want to come back to a blog that hasn’t been updated in months. Consistent posting is what keeps them coming back.

How many blog entries should I make each week? This is a tough question to answer. The purpose of your blog could be for many different reasons. If its a personal blog, a weekly or twice weekly update is a great plan. A political/sports/music/religion blog should have 3-4 posts a week. Business blogs should have at least 2 posts but preferably 4 each week. Always remember that quality counts. Posting frequently just to be posting can sometimes result in uninteresting material that people don’t really care about. Balance is so important. Why create 4 posts a week with poor quality when 2 quality posts per week would be more except-able.

How do I create quality postings on a consistent basis?

It’s all about following a consistent pattern of writing. Maybe you’re not a natural writer and this is difficult. That’s why I’ll  give you an outline to help you.

1.    Pick a topic that is interesting to you and to your readers. Maybe if your blog is a personal blog, you could write about the latest happenings in Hollywood.
2.    Carefully think about what you’ll write about the topic. It makes it easy to make quality blog postings if you know exactly what you’ll write. Plot out everything about the post before even beginning to write it.
3.    Before writing your content, pick out some keywords that are relevant to your blog. If you naturally use keywords throughout your post, you will please search engine spiders which will get your blog ranked higher on search engines. Your visitors won’t
mind the use of keywords if they are used in a tasteful way.
4.    Begin writing your post. Don’t limit yourself to a particular amount of words. Just do what’s natural. And if any blog post is hard for you, just take a timeout and relax. You should be able to finish the post a bit later on, after you’ve had some time to
think things through, you should be able to finish the post with no problems.

Why is frequent posting important?

Blogs are meant to be outlets for individuals or businesses. They are used to get an opinion out on something and to engage readers. Readers need to have something that makes them want to keep coming back to a blog. That something is usually quality,
frequent posts.
Gaining and maintaining visitors isn’t the only reason to post often in your blog. Catching the eye of a search engine—and achieving a high ranking—is another valid reason for posting frequently. Most likely, each posting in your blog features some
keywords or keyword phrases scattered throughout it. Logic says that the more natural keywords you have on a blog, the better. Thus, the more posts you make on your blog, the more keywords you have on there. And the more keywords you have, the more likely a search engine bot is to crawl your site. The more your site is crawled by bots, the more likely it is that you will have a high ranking on a search engine.  Frequent blog posting can be easy as long as the person who is posting takes the time to plot out what they’ll write about. Meal Plan for Weight Loss

Weight Loss is one of my priorities right now. Crazy time to start now during the Holiday Season but is anytime a good time?  What you eat and how much weight you are going to lose are directly correlated. One thing is for sure, you have to devise a meal plan that has a high success rate. With that said, your lifestyle is going to be a determining factor. How much time you will have to exercise and how much weight you want to lose will determine if you will lose and how much.

Those that cannot exercise at all need to create a strict weight loss plan. This plan should involve a very low amount of carbs and be rich in protein. Stock up on eggs, meats, and nuts to add to your diet. You are also going to want to eat healthy vegetables like broccoli. A typical diet for the day would consist of something such as eggs for breakfast, nuts to snack on before lunch, a salad with chicken for lunch, and fish with broccoli and other vegetables for dinner. You can look up other recipes to add to your meals as well.

Someone with a more active lifestyle may want to add some fruits to their diet. Healthy carbohydrates can help a person function to maximum capacity during a workout. Most carbohydrates should be eliminated from meals after lunch, unless you workout during the evening. If you workout at night then have your last bit of carbs before your workout. You should workout before your last meal of the day. The last things you eat should should be vegetables and protein. This is the type of weight loss meal plan that is healthy for someone that exercises often.

How much weight do you want to lose? If your goal is to lose hundreds of pounds then you are going to want to follow a very strict diet plan. 90% of the time you should follow your diet, and 10% of the time you may slightly stray from your diet. Someone that wants to lose 10 pounds on the other hand can practice the 80 to 20 rule. Where 80% of the time healthy eating is practiced and 20% of the time they can splurge a little. Someone that exercises is also a lot more likely to lose weight fast so they don’t have to focus entirely on dieting.

Your best bet is to do what works for you. The first couple of weeks you should try your best to lose a few pounds. Try and figure out if working out and exercising helps, or if simply dieting alone is enough. A weight loss meal plan is necessary to lose weight. You cannot hope to exercise alone and never diet. Make sure you try your best to diet as much as possible until you reach and exceed your weight loss goals, that way you won’t feel bad if you gain a few pounds back.

Living in North Central USA this time of the year can be a hardship when it comes to getting out side to do the best exercise for me. Walking! I love to walk and it really does help to drop the pounds. Today we are at 1 degree and light snowfall. No walking today! I do want to add in closing, I have dropped 11 pounds since October 14th! Woo Hoo!

Try this: 2 apples and a pomegranate, or an apple, an orange or pomegranate. At the end of the day you should have consumed the equivalent of 4 oranges, 4 apples, a watermelon and 2 pomegranates. Of course you will want to cut these fruits up into bite-sized portions.

Continue on with this type of pattern on the following six days with your fruit diet weight loss plan, and vary the pattern so that it creates a variety. Mix up the order, or munch on the fruits as you are doing something else, or until you are full and then go about your business.

Cinnamon is Good for You

A Spoonful of Cinnamon Goes A Long Way

The next time you are in search of a suitable spice that is tasty and also healthful, reach for cinnamon. A new study has found that sprinkling a spoonful of cinnamon on breakfast foods not only adds a burst of flavor, but also dramatically lowers an individual’s blood sugar levels, potentially reducing the chance of developing diabetes.


According to the study, when healthy weight and obese adults ate a cooked breakfast cereal with 6 grams of cinnamon, blood sugar levels declined by 25 percent for the next two hours compared to participants who did not ingest the spice. The study was recently reported by the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The study involved 37 participants and confirms that in both healthy-weight and obese adults, cinnamon reduces blood glucose concentration and enhances insulin sensitivity, strengthening the body’s ability to ward off diabetes.

This study is good news for the more than 80 million American adults who have prediabetes. It gives many people a chance to begin to change their health around and reverse many of their symptoms with a simple teaspoon of cinnamon.
